When is the best time to visit Kruger National Park ?
From May to September – Dry season
(southern winter)
The dry season is the ideal time to discover Kruger National Park. The sparse vegetation and short grass offer excellent visibility, while animals congregate around waterholes. Mornings and nights are cool, but the days remain mild and pleasant for safaris. It's a bright, comfortable season, particularly conducive to wildlife viewing. May and June also benefit from relatively low tourist numbers.
From October to April – Green Season
(southern summer)
This season offers warmer temperatures and occasional rain, often in the form of short thunderstorms in the late afternoon. The park becomes lush and green, but the denser vegetation can make spotting some animals more difficult. It's also the best time for migratory birds and the breeding season, starting in mid-November. The months of December to February are warmer and busier, but this doesn't detract from the quality of your visit.
The best months to visit Kruger National Park during the dry season are May–June and September–October . The sparse vegetation offers excellent visibility for wildlife viewing, with pleasant days, cool mornings, and relatively few tourists, ensuring a comfortable and intimate safari experience.
The best months to discover Kruger Park during the green season are October–November and March–April.
These periods offer milder climatic conditions: fewer storms, moderate heat and lush nature, ideal for fully enjoying safaris.
